About the Site

For those that haven’t visited the site before, Thunder Bay is approximately 45 minutes north of Grand Portage, MN.  Fort William is a reconstructed 1815 Northwest Company fur trade post, on the banks of the Kaministiquia river.  The site features a large number of period buildings, out buildings, working farm and trade shops.

The site provides sleeping accommodations for approximately 80 participants (lower bunks, dorm style), but the dorms are located on an upper storey (stairs only).  Limited sleeping accommodations are available on the main floor – registration form will include questions on accessibility requirements to ensure main floor space is prioritized for those in need.  Camping space is also available for those who prefer to tent, and parking is available nearby for those who have an RV (no power/water).

Details on the 2026 Gathering

Registrations should be live on our website starting on August 1, 2026. While final registration costs are not yet available (estimated currently at $195 for the weekend), an early bird price will again be available until September 15, 2026!

Looking for ways to reduce Fall Gathering costs? Consider giving a presentation or taking the lead on meal planning! The Board offers a $50 honorarium for each workshop or presentation and for leading one meal for the weekend. Looking ahead, 2027 marks the 50th Anniversary for the NAVC! Let us know if you want to join the Fall Gathering 2027 planning to make the event our best one yet!
